GER 1500 class 4-6-0 No 1503 leaves Yarmouth South Town with an up train.

Peter Kerslake says "1503 was the fourth of the class introduced in 1910 when the need for a larger 4-6-0 design was becoming apparent with the "Claud Hamiltons" having to undertake more demanding roles on heavier and faster express passenger duties.
This picture shows the attractive framing over the driving wheels, an early feature of this most handsome design but one which sadly was removed during subsequent overhauls, but for what reason I know not. From No.1505 the design of the cab sides was varied with the splashers and beading over the trailing driving wheels prominent and smaller and shallower number plates appearing on later examples.
Seventy one of these "S69s" were built by the Great Eastern Railway between 1910 and 1921, with the L.N.E.R. adding a further ten in 1928 for the former Great Eastern lines, and a final batch of 25 going North of the Border to Scotland in 1931."
