The shedplate and LNER 9x5 builders plates have been removed and the tender has been partially cleaned which dates it probably from 1962. Following withdrawal it was a Stratford from 14 September 1961 to June 1963, by which time it was looking tatty - I think this was sometime early in 1962.

Peter Kerslake says "61572 was the last surviving B12 in service before being condemned in 1961 but was saved from the cutters' torches, and was preserved, going to the North Norfolk Railway. Originally numbered 8572 and the second of ten built by Beyer Peacock in 1928 and classed as a B12/2 it was one of the class rebuilt in the 1940s to class B12/3 resulting in a much improved level of performance coupled with less coal consumption. This engine had a Westinghouse air pump positioned further forward than most of the class which is apparent from this view."
