Peter Kerslake says "Still working the former Great Eastern main line northwards from Liverpool Street here in the 1950's "B12/2" 61576 was one of the ten additional members of her class ordered by Sir Nigel Gresley in 1928 having been built by Beyer Peacocks in order to maintain express passenger services when delivery of the initial batch of three cylinder "Sandringhams" was running behind schedule.
Allocated to Stratford depot 61576 was one of fifteen there in 1956, with a total of 42 still operational at that time and spread over six Motive Power Depots."
