D10xx 1970s Dawlish
An unidentified Western still makes a fine sight. Note that the left hand lamp iron is taller than the other and the Overhead flashes are high up and name is not long.
Peter Kerslake says "An uncared for "Western" Diesel heads a class seven freight round the curve and on to the sea wall here at Langstone Rock, a favourite and elevated vantage point for any railway cameraman prepared to tackle the climb to the top.
The line here was originally much nearer the footpath wall but was twice moved further inland to ease the curve, firstly in 1873 when the line was doubled and again in 1911 when the cliffs were cut back to provide foundations for the new Dawlish Warren station and there are visible signs of recent ballast work underway in this view."
