Ex-Highland Railway Cumming 'Superheated Goods' a.k.a. 'Clan Goods' (LMS '4F') class 4-6-0 No. 17954. Built by Hawthorn Leslie & Co. of Newcastle in October 1919 as HR No. 79 and withdrawn in October 1952 as BR No. 57954. There were just eight of this powerful Christopher Cumming designed class built. In spite of their name, they were frequently seen on passenger train duties. Six survived into BR ownership and this one was the last to be withdrawn. It is pictured here at Inverness MPD in August 1937 with four seagulls admiring it from aloft! Les Hanson-David Hanson Archive
