BR 'Class 22' B-B Diesel No. D6351. Built by NBL of Glasgow in June 1962 and withdrawn in November 1969. Where once proud and gleaming with burnished brass and copper Great Western Railway locomotives stood, a sad and redundent specimen lurks behind one of the new order at Swindon in December 1962. The North British Locomotive Company of Glasgow had gone bankrupt in 1962 almost simultaneously with their supply of these new diesels. Early reliability issues and the non-availability of spares led to almost the entire class of 58 locomotives becoming exctinct within a decade. In fairness, their use on secondary duties latterly was successful and their reliablity had become markedly better. None were preserved.
