D1553 1965-07-18 Rose Grove

BR 'Class 47' or 'Brush Type 4' Co-Co diesel No. D1553. Built at Crewe in January 1964 and withdrawn in December 1973 as TOPS No. 47437.

Rose Grove in Burnley, Lancashire will live on in railway history for being one of the last operating steam MPDs in Britain. The adjacent station sees D1553 of the new order heading an eastbound express on a murky July day in 1965.
