BR '81' class Bo-Bo Electric No. E3001. Built by Birmingham Carriage & Wagon Co. in Nov.1959 and withdrawn in Apr. 1973 as TOPS No. 81001. The Styal line route from Manchester to Wilmslow was the test bed for BR's 25kv electrification projects. Hence the appearance of brand new and pristine E3001 at East Didsbury Sidings, Heaton Mersey, Cheshire in October 1959. The sidings were used as a project engineering depot.
