D58xx Brush Type 2s 1961 Elland
The ex-L&YR's Elland Station in the Calder Valley was opened in October 1840 and closed in September 1962. Various plans to rebuild and reopen the station have been proposed for over two decades and perhaps the latest may even come to fruition - we'll see...
A pair of unidentified BR 'Class 31' diesels head west with a passenger train passing the station with its 'Lowryesque' mill backdrop (now converted into smart flats). Probably an excursion from the Sheffield area to Blackpool or Southport. The station and all other structures in this panorama have been erased from the landscape. The photograph was taken in 1961.
