North British Loco Co. of Glasgow had been one of the world's foremost independent steam locomotive manufacturer since 1903 . Their long and wonderful contribution to steam railway history was rapidly curtailed by their disastrous late 1950s foray into electric and diesel manufacturing, selling unreliable products at unprofitable margins. By 1962 the company was in liquidation. Pictured at Inverurie Works during its brief 10 month allocation away from St Margarets to Kittybrewster, is BR 'Class 2' North British 0-4-0 diesel shunter D2750, withdrawn after less than eight years service. Behind is an unidentified NBL 'Class 21' also with a feeble lifespan of about nine years. This photograph was taken in 1963.
