45XX 2-6-2T No 4565 leaves Coombe Junction with the 12.15pm Liskeard to Looe train on August 15, 1959.


Peter Kerslake adds "Opened in 1859 the line between Moorswater and Looe was not connected to Liskeard station, on the main line to Penzance, until February of 1901 when a two mile link was laid on a gradient of 1 in 34 thereby providing a through service between Liskeard and Looe. Reversal was, and still is, necessary at Coombe Junction and the original 1868 built station at Moorswater was replaced by a similarly basic structure at Coombe Junction in 1901 but very few, if any, passengers ever used it!
Moorswater Viaduct on the main line is visible in this view. It was originally timber built, with the line up to Cheesewring and its granite quarries passing below it, in earlier years taking stone and copper down to the ships at Looe Docks from the high moorland above Liskeard."
