The delightful little branch line between Liskeard and its terminus at Looe was one of the very few within Cornwall to survive Beeching's axe , and is still a popular attraction today,with a reversal necessary at Coombe just below Liskeard .
4552 runs down through the valley into the little but busy fishing port of Looe here in 1956 , the engine being based at 83E ., which was St . Blazey at this time , but there was a sub shed at nearby Moorswater where I believe engines were kept overnight when working the Looe branch as shown here .
Built within the fourth batch of fifteen of this design at Swindon between 1914 and 1915 this example has the straight topped 1000 gallon water tanks , the final design having an increased 1300 gallon capacity , distinctive with their sloping topped tanks.
The typical non corridor branch line stock has a few faces at open windows taking in the typical Cornish scenery.
