The large running-in board advises passengers ‘ST.ERTH FOR ST. IVES BRANCH’ as ‘45xx’ 2-6-2T No.4570 waits in the branch bay platform in the late-1950s. The other large sign further along the Down platform was advertising the British Transport Commission owned ‘Tregenna Castle Hotel’, the luxurious hotel owned by the Great Western Railway overlooking St Ives bay. It was the name of ‘Castle’ No. 5006 but was never a true castle, having been built as a luxury residence in the late 18th century and became a hotel when it was rented by the GWR when the branch opened; the railway purchased it in 1895 and developed it extensively in the late 1920s and early 1930s.
