45xx 1956-06-11 Saltash Bridge

From a date well before a start had been made on the new road bridge this photograph has been taken from the Southern Region main line linking Plymouth to Exeter via the North Dartmoor " withered arm " route , part of which is still open as far as Bere Alston today.
Saltash is on the right , and the jetty and cranes seen here stretching out into the Tamar are part of the Royal Naval Armament Depot at Bull Point where missiles and the like are housed underground to be loaded on to barges for the warships moored out in Plymouth Sound as it's too dangerous to load them this far up river
