5557 1955-09 Exeter St Davids

5557 1955-09 Exeter St Davids

Down local.

My shedbook shows that 5557 was alocated to St . Blazey in Cornwall in 1956 but she's shown here at the western end of Exeter St . David's on a local passenger duty , probably running down through Dawlish and Teignmouth to Newton Abbot and possibly Kingswear .
A Bulleid " Pacific " waits alongside , the Southern Region line to Exeter Central with its steep climb being out of sight on the extreme right .
5557 was one of the final batch of this design , this engine being built at Swindon in 1929 , and shows its sloping topped water tank on this side with its increased 1300 gallon water capacity , holding 300 gallons more than the earlier straight topped versions.
