No stranger to the Welsh lines and recalling its earlier years shedded at Machynlleth in the mid ' fifties , 4555 worked this last train to Brecon in company with Pannier Tank 3690 on the 2nd . of May , 1964 before being privately purchased direct from British Rail the following year .
Restoration to its former Great Western livery subsequently took place at Worcester Works in 1965 before 4555 returned back to its former territory on the Dart Valley Railway in late 1965 , a line upon which it had seen service three years earlier in 1962 and prior to its withdrawal.
4555 was , in fact , the first preserved locomotive to join the Dart Valley Heritage line in 1965 and was used there for a considerable period of time in its preserved role before going up to the associated Torbay Heritage line in 1973 where it remains today.
