This is the southern, or Yelverton side of Horrabridge station on the Plymouth to Launceston branch line , with 4592 waiting to head down to Yelverton and Plymouth with a service from Tavistock or possibly from the northern terminus at Launceston , whilst a northbound working runs off the single line and into the station .
Horrabridge , about mid way between Tavistock and Yelverton , had opened when the branch came into being in 1859 with freight , especially locally mined copper ore being an important source of business together with coal and agricultural materials all contributing to the station's role , whilst passenger traffic was invariably heavy .
Before Yelverton became the junction for the 1883 built Princetown branch that line ran to here at Horrabridge for two years until 1885 when the terminus was changed to Yelverton.
