45025 1959c Glasgow Ibrox
This photograph was taken from the Paisley Road overbridge down on to the station looking towards Paisley on the old Glasgow and Paisley Joint, owned and operated by the G&SW and CR. The branch to 'Govan Goods and Mineral Station' and 'Princes Dock' curves away to the right and the whole scene is dominated by the vast gas holder, which appeared during the war and was not associated with a nearby Gas Works, presumably being just used for buffer storage. Signals are all ex-Caley modernised in the LMS or early BR period with upper quadrant arms. The signal box is of a pure Caley design. The Albion Greyhound track is beyond the stone wall to the right and beyond that the Ibrox Park Stadium. The train, a Class C Perishable carrying meat containers is heading towards Shields Road and the many goods yards and warehouses in that area.
The engine is the now preserved 45025 which had been allocated to Upperby since the summer of 1958 when it arrived from Willesden. It has no signs of overhead electrification warning flashes and the front smokebox lamp iron is still high on the door which all fits with a late 1950s date.
