45012 1960s Lune Gorge

45012 1960s Lune Gorge

Colin Ryder adds the details "45012 has just passed over the southern end of the Dillicar Troughs on an Up mixed-freight train most likely in the mid-1960s.

The top lamp bracket has been lowered for safety reasons for loco crew when working under overhead live wires. The central lower bracket has been moved to the right to keep it in line with the upper bracket These alterations were increasingly made to locomotives from early 1963, and so the photo was probably not taken before that year.

Its home shed was in Carlisle, mostly at Kingmoor (68A/12A) from September 1952 to March 1966 apart from the period March 1962 to May 1963 when it was at Upperby (12A). From April 1966 to withdrawal in October of the same year it was at Barrow (12C). It is more likely the photo was taken therefore before April 1966. "
