Ex-LMS Stanier 'Black 5' class 4-6-0 No. 44990. Built at Horwich in Nov. 1946 as LMS No. 4990 and withdrawn in Oct. 1967. The Stygian gloom of Normanton MPD was just about penetrated by light from the dilapidated roof. By this time (June 1967) Normanton was the only remaining steam shed in Yorkshire and just about everything, perhaps even 44990, was dilapidated!
