44709 1962 Lancaster

44709 of 24L Carnforth shed has just crossed Carlisle Bridge high above the River Lune and is about to enter the outer up platform no.5 of Lancaster Castle (ex-LNWR) station.

To the right can be seen a catenary over the steeply descending curving spur down to ex-Midland Green Ayre station, the Midland transfer sidings along the Lune and loco shed.

Centre is the through down fast line to the North. Next is the line from the down platform no.3. The line curving sharply left with the speed restriction sign leads to the Glasson Dock Branch on the Lune estuary.

On the left is Lancaster no.4 signal-box. The line in front comes from bay platforms 1 & 2, by this date used only for local services to Morecambe (Euston Road).
