4882 1946c Polmadie

4882 1946c Polmadie

Dated 1946, 4882 was one of the first post-war Black 5s, built at Crewe in June 1945. Apart from the scroll and serif smokebox numberplate it is identical with the 1943/4 Derby-built engines. Note the two extra washout plugs at the front of the first barrel ring of the boiler near the top; these were introduced starting with 5492 from Derby in 1944.
