45081 1963 Patricroft New Shed
45081 pictured at Patricroft 'New Shed' ran for two months from 1 December 1963 until 25th January 1964 (according to the Engine history Card although photos showing the pair exist dated summer 1964) with this former coal weighing tender No.10590. This was one of two coal-weighing tenders were built at Horwich in 1946 to allow accurate measurement of coal consumption. The frames, wheels and axleboxes were those of the standard 4,000 gallon Stanier tender but special tanks and coal bunkers were fitted which held 3,750 gallons of water and 7¾ tons of coal. By the late-1950s the coal weighing facilities were no longer needed, and so the steelyard weighing equipment and their casings were removed, and the bunkers were fixed down.
