45031 1960s Warrington

45031 1960s Warrington

Probably taken in the summer of 1963, Chester Class ‘5’ No. 45031 is arriving at Walton Old Junction with a loaded Class ‘C’ livestock or ‘cattle’ train which is fully fitted and has almost certainly come from Holyhead. The two lines to the left go off to the Manchester Ship Canal railway whereas those to the right are the Walton Old Sidings. As can be seen in this picture the building of the Canal forced many changes to the Permanent Way and infrastructure of the area. The wagons are standing at the old level of the main line south.
