Willesden allocated ex-LMS Stanier 'Black 5' 44844 passes the small box at Gayton in Northamptonshire with a down express. The headboard 1H23 was a reserved code of a 'Run as Required' Relief train, the 15.45 Euston to Manchester Piccadilly via Stoke which ran ahead of the booked service train which left Euston around 16.00. This pleasant rural location was a favourite for local enthusiasts and many of Les Hanson's photographs feature them, but seemingly not on this day! Friday 10th August 1962.
