44762 1966c Birmingham Snow Hill

The famous clock on Platform 7 shows 12.33pm as Stanier ‘Class 5’ No. 44762 is about to move off with its brake van into the tunnel towards Moor Street. The later pattern of Stanier tender with part-welded tanks and oblong shaped vents on the rear bulkhead shows up well. To its right are two interesting signs, the cream and brown circular station totem, found only at Snow Hill and Bristol Temple Meads, and one for ‘Rail Air Service’. No.44762 was one of the last LMS-built ‘Class 5s’ and was one of three painted in green in January 1948 when the newly formed British Railways was deliberating about the liveries it would adopt. It was at Tyseley from December 1965 until the following November.
