45255 48339 92215 1965 Saltley

Saltley No.3 roundhouse seems positively light and airy in this 1965 picture. It had been rebuilt in 1956 with a new roof, higher walls and a long glazed panel. However all was not well as the roof was removed in the early 1960s, and demolition followed soon after the closure to steam. The three engines in the centre are ‘9F’ 2-10-0 No.92215 from nearby Tyseley, Stanier ‘Class 5’ No.45255 from Newton Heath and one of Saltley’s own ‘8F’2-8-0s, No.48339.
