Croes Newydd had a cosmopolitan mixture of LMS, GWR and BR standard classes towards the end of steam.

Peter Kerslake says "Originally the Western Region's Motive Power Depot at Croes Newydd had been coded as 84J but it then changed to 89B in January of 1961 before being taken over by the London Midland Region in September of 1963, changing its code once again, but now to 6C and thereby extending the life of the Depot which then flourished until June of 1967.
Midland Region Class Five is seen here alongside the coal wagon ramp leading up to to the coaling stage in this 1966 view with the rather run down asbestos shed in the background used for locomotives being attended to by shed staff is just visible."
