44766 1951c Shrewsbury
One of only eight Black 5s fitted with a double chimney, 44766 waits at Shrewsbury with a northbound train in the early 1950s. It also has electric lighting, an unsuccessful experiment tried on just seven of the class and quickly removed because the lamps weren't powerful enough to be seen properly in daylight, in the case of 44766 in June 1952. It was built as 4766 at Crewe in December 1947 and renumbered as 44766 in May 1948 and apart from a month on loan to Edge Hill in mid-1949, was at Crewe North from new until 1959.
