The Class ‘D’ freight hauled by No. 44878 on 21st March 1967 at Winwick is only partly fitted (with the automatic brakes operative on not less than one-third of the vehicles). The engine is fitted with a miniature snow plough – it would not be needed again that year. The Class ‘5’ lasted until July of the following year allocated to Lostock Hall from January 1968, having been at Carlisle Kingmoor since new in 1945.
