The clean unlined black suggests 44779, pictured at Shrewsbury, had recently completed its last Heavy repair at Crewe, leaving there in October 1964. It was transferred from Blackpool to Bury in September while it was in the Works, which may explain the absence of a shedplate. Engines repaired at Crewe worked to Shrewsbury often in groups of three or four to check everything was working satisfactorily before they were returned to their home depots.
