On a Euston-Blackpool. The signalbox is Warton Junction (albeit some distance from Warton village) and was situated 12 miles 23 chains from Preston. The 'box controlled the junction with the little-known branch to Lytham dock and a rather strange gas works. It is not to be confused with Lytham Goods Junction which was behind the photographer and on the opposite side of the track. The Lytham dock branch is thought to have fallen into disuse during the 1930s, at which point the RAF took it over and laid some sidings to serve their nearby base
