LMS 5MT 4-6-0 No 44951 on an express from the Calder Valley in the mid-1950s, the train is approaching Dryclough Junction on the line which leaves the Calder Valley main line at Milner Royd near Sowerby Bridge by a west facing junction. From the direction and the train formation this is probobly one of the Liverpool-Bradford/Leeds trains. 44951 was a long term Low Moor resident which supports this theory.

Viewed from Haigh Lane in Halifax, 44951 is passing a ‘Pin Down Brakes’ sign as it approaches Halifax Station. The suburb of Siddal is visible across the Hebble Brook valley. It is often forgotten how many Yorkshire streets were still gas lit into the 1960s and later. Many towns and local authorities had their own gasworks.
