44696 photographed at Farnley Junction on 29 October 1961 had just been fitted with AWS equipment, during a Non-Classified works visit that month. It was built in December with one of the coal weighing tenders but soon exchanged this for a standard part-welded one in January 1951. 44696 was shedded at Newton Heath, until early 1964 when it moved to Trafford Park.
