44753 1960s Beeston Station

44753 1960s Beeston Station

The ungainly shape of a Caprotti valve-gear 'Black Five' No.44753 waiting to depart from Beeston Station. It was allocated to Leeds Holbeck from new in March 1948 Holbeck and stayed there until November 1963 when it was transferred to Lower Darwen, so this picture was probably taken in 1963. Details to note are the part-welded tender which has roller bearing axleboxes with their distinctive circular covers and the AWS cylinder and battery box on the running plate; the box was hidden away in the cab on the standard 'Black Fives'.
