The northbound diversion left the main line at Northallerton, headed to Stockton then up Stockton Bank to Norton South Junction then round the curve to Norton West Junction as seen here, and onto the old mineral lines (ex-Clarence Railway) to Ferryhill re-joining the ECML just south of Durham.
Note the spare Gresley articulated coaches stored in the short siding.
