A contributor adds the comment that a very grimy 60132 'Marmion' is seen leaving the east coast main line (ECML) at Portobello East Junction on to the 'Waverley Route' line from Edinburgh Waverley Station, most likely on a through train to Carlisle. The footbridge across all the tracks, in front of the signalbox crossed both the main line and the many tracks of the marshalling yard off to the immediate right of the image. This was a grand location for watching all the goods and passenger movements. A little behind the photographer is the single line viaduct for the goods-only 'Lothian Lines' across the ECML, which continued a few yards further on to cross the 'Waverley Route' also.
