Brand new BR Peppercorn A1 No. 60147 rolls into Grantham Station in the Up side station sidings, the loco's in reverse gear in 1949. The line where the man is standing is the Up side bay which terminated behind the photographer, as do all the tracks to its right. The main lines are beyond the line of lamp posts. Signals indicate that an Up express may shortly appear.

60147 has the early, ugly 'unlipped' chimney and has yet to be named 'North Eastern' which took place in March 1952. 60147 was built at Darlington in April 1949 and was withdrawn in Aug. 1964.
The unusual 6 wheeled parcels vehicle to the right is of late GER origin.
