60114 1964-08-08 Birmingham New Street

On Sunday 12th July 1964 BR Peppercorn 'A1' 4-6-2 No. 60114 'W.P.Allen' headed the Derbyshire Railway Society railtour from Sheffield via Birmingham to Worcester. 60114 bent a connecting rod at Worcester so therefore was failed, a Black Five working the return leg of the tour.

This is the East (London/Derby) end of New Street with the Rotunda under construction, therefore 60114 should not be at this end if it is on the outwards working.

It was subsequently repaired at Worcester and worked back on the 11:41am New Street to Newcastle relief service on 8th August 1964 as seen here.
60114 was built at Doncaster in August 1948 and was withdrawn in December 1964.
