60148 threads its way through the severe bottleneck which is Peterborough North and under the' Bowstring' bridge in this view , heading northwards with an express for Leeds from Kings Cross. I recall spending a number of productive Saturdays here in the mid 'fifties , taking a day return ticket from Kings Lynn and travelling on the former Midland and Great Nothern line , and the scene in this splendid shot seems to have changed very little. It was here at Peterborough that the infamous W1 number 60700 with its unique 4-6-4 wheel arrangement became derailed whilst on a down Doncaster working on the 1st. September of 1955 following a fracture to its leading bogie frame. The through lines avoiding the station can be seen on the extreme right of this picture
