This first class panorama gives an excellent impression of York' Queen Street shed and stabling point in its relation to the station. In February 1964 the days of locomotive servicing here are long gone, the yard is principally used for the allocated 'stand-by' locomotive to await any failure that might require it to respond. Today's candidate is BR Peppercorn 'A1' 4-6-2 No. 60138 'Boswell' and looks as if it might be brewing up for action! 60138 was built at Darlington in Dec. 1948 and was withdrawn in Oct. 1965.
