This undated 1960s photograph of 'Flamboyant' finds it looking rather down at heel in the yard at York MPD. Nonetheless, it is every inch a thoroughbred as Peppercorn's 'A1' 4-6-2 design has gone on to prove with the many exploits of 'Tornado'. 60153 was built at Doncaster in Aug. 1949 and was withdrawn in Nov. 1962, only the second of the A1s to be withdrawn, 'H.A. Ivatt' being the first in the previous month.
