SR Rebuilt WC 4-6-2 No 34003 Plymouth with a relief leaving Faversham on 14 June 1959.

Robert Waterman says " The date was the very last day of steam on the Victoria - Ramsgate via Chatham services and a Sunday, so it may well have been a relief as noted in this instance. The first 8 coaches comprise Bulleid set 474 carrying 'LONDON MARGATE BROADSTAIRS RAMSGATE' roofboards. On Mondays to Saturdays this set did two return trips daily. The first up from Ramsgate to Cannon Street then ecs to Victoria followed by the regular 10.35am Victoria to Ramsgate which this photo is likely depicting. I can't remember the afternoon/evening return times which were Ramsgate - Victoria and return.
The carriage roofboards on South Eastern section of the SR used LONDON rather than the actual station name thus avoiding the need to change them for Victoria or Cannon Street. The only exception was the Kentish Belle pullman set which displayed VICTORIA MARGATE RAMSGATE.
The expresses from Charing Cross and Cannon Street to Folkestone Dover Ramsgate & Margate did not carry roofboards in BR days except for 'The Man of Kent' services which displayed only the train title. "
