BR '77' or 'EM2' class Co-Co 1500v DC Electric No. 27001. Built at Gorton in Mar. 1954, named 'Ariadne' in Oct. 1959 and withdrawn in Oct. 1968. Sold to Dutch Railways and finally withdrawn in 1985. The second of the seven 'EM2s' to be built, 27001 is seen on a rather grey (now THERE'S a surprise!) Manchester day in 1959 prior to receiving its name 'Ariadne', she was a Cretan princess in Greek mythology. Now preserved as Dutch Railways No. NS 1505 at the Manchester Museum of Science and Industry.
