This was an evening shot from Whitsun Monday , the 21st. of May , 1956 following a "Southern Day Out" with pals from Plymouth and a trip via the North Cornwall Southern line to Exeter. Homeward bound via the Western Region line an hour or so at St. Davids with the evening sunshine in the West produced a few really good photographs . 30710 as she rolls into Exeter St. Davids from the Okehampton and North Cornwall line before heading up the bank to Exeter Central. There's a banking engine on the left to assist Southern Region trains up into Exeter Central ,and the Crossing Keeper keeps watch on the proceedings as he was responsible for controlling the level crossing gates seen in this image Happy Days!
