Ex-North Eastern Railway Raven 'B16/1' class 4-6-0 No. 61412. Built at Darlington in August 1920 as NER No. 909 and withdrawn in September 1961.

If ever a single class of locomotive was associated with one place it was the 'B16s' and the City of York. In the steam era it seemed to be never more than a few minutes before one hoved into view. The joy of the class was the unpredictable nature of their work, heave and light freight, parcels trains, van trains and passenger 'locals' and expresses. The true forerunners of the ubiquitous 'B1s' and 'Black 5s'. 61412, one of the original unmodifed engines, is on a northbound express passing an ex-GCR Robinson 'O4/6' No. 63912 at York's Holgate platforms. The extensive freight yards at Dringhouses were just out of view on the left in the distance.
