1444 1947 York Holgate
North Eastern Railway designed Raven 'B16/3' class 4-6-0 No. 1444. Built at Darlington in May 1923 and withdrawn in June 1964 as BR No. 61444. York's Holgate Platforms avoided congestion in the main station on 'race days'. York racecourse was but a short walk away. The superb signal gantry seen behind southbound 1444 and the girder bridge carrying Holgate Road over the railway are prominent in this fine 1947 panorama.
