York allocated ex NER B16 4-6-0 No 61460 at Leicester Central in c1955.
The York-based B16 is facing north, standing on a short spur on the up side at the south end of the station. The photographer was standing near the south end of platform 6, the southbound through platform.
If you were there today you'd be standing at track level, the platforms having been removed, with your feet on the tarmac of an expansive car park. However, you'd still be able to get your bearings because the terraced properties on Talbot Lane still stand, as does the sturdy blue brick parapet wall, seen behind the tender, which turns an angle behind the end of the spur.
It must have just come from to the shed, where it has been coaled and watered and will re-engine a train north.
