This was the celebrated SLS/MLS Tees-Tyne Railtour of 2nd September 1956 which ran from Darlington to Newcastle and back using a variety of freight-only lines (including the Clarence Railway between Coxhoe and Norton). B16 No 61443 powered the train and was on a photographic stop at Wynyard on the Castle Eden line, north of Thorpe Thewles. It fits with a picture he sent me taken from the distant bridge showing the train with enthusiasts milling around. The platform visible on the left was last used when the station closed in 1931.

A connecting service from Manchester had been provided to Darlington, headed by No 70033.
