61418 1960-07-18 Scarborough
Having just passed the fine gantry at Falsgrave, we see a very smoky passenger train departure from Scarborough is underway in July 1960. Ex-NER Raven B16/3 No. 61418 is at the helm. In this era, the B16 4-6-0s were possibly the most frequently used class for these duties on this route to and from York. The vast majority were supplied by York MPD that had a near monopoly of these fine, mixed traffic machines. 61418 was built at Darlington in Nov. 1920 as NER No. 922, rebuilt from class B16/1 to class B16/3 in Apr. 1944 and withdrawn in June 1964.
